America’s growing and aging population are consuming more healthcare. That’s contributing to a shortage of physicians that is projected to only get worse in the coming years.  Physician Assistants (PAs) are widely seen as being able to help ease the shortfall.   A vital part of the healthcare team, PAs can make the delivery of care more efficient, effective, and accessible.  To support the needs of this growing profession, the Johnson & Johnson Institute provides professional education and training programs geared to their unique role in healthcare.

Enhancing Knowledge, Skills in Orthopaedic Surgical Care

The PA profession had its roots in primary care, but today many PAs work in medical specialties such as orthopedics.   Under the guidance of a surgeon, PAs assist in operating room procedures and provide aid in hemostasis, wound closure, and other intraoperative technical functions to help optimize patient outcomes.

To build on their knowledge and skills in spine and reconstructive joint surgeries, the Johnson & Johnson Institute offers courses throughout the year tailored to the learning needs of PAs and Nurse Practitioners, who also play an important role in the multi-disciplinary approach to delivering care.

In partnership with ETHICON, the course curriculum includes hands-on training on the latest wound closure and hemostasis technology and techniques for spine and joint reconstruction procedures.

“We greatly value our collaboration with the PA community and the shared passion we have for improving patient care through quality education and training,” said Sandy Youssef, Manager Professional Education, Orthopaedics..”As the demand for PAs continues to grow, we look forward to working together to meet the evolving educational needs of this healthcare partner.”
