Learning from others’ experiences has always been an essential aspect of professional development in surgery. The unprecedented challenges of COVID-19 have made it even more valuable. That’s why the Johnson & Johnson Institute and DePuy Synthes brought together global leaders in a SpineTIME Virtual Summit to share learnings from treating patients during the pandemic and how to deliver quality care in the future.

The live-streamed educational event was led by an esteemed faculty of spine specialists from some of the hardest-hit pandemic areas, including Wuhan, China; Milan, Italy; the UK, and New York. During the program, each faculty member presented the protocols and procedures used to deliver safe, effective care during the height of the outbreaks in their regions.

They also provided perspectives on the return to elective surgeries and how best to care for patients in a time of ongoing uncertainty and limited hospital resources.
“Each of us comes up with protocols that work for us, but when we share these this is how we can improve care for our patients,” said Munish C. Gupta, MD, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Faculty Chair for the program.

SpineTIME is a new web series from the Johnson & Johnson Institute and DePuy Synthes that provides a virtual platform to exchange knowledge about hot topics in spine surgery and to help drive continued collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We believe it is important to find new ways of helping the global surgical community stay connected so that knowledge and information can be shared,” said Joanna Talis, Senior Manager, Worldwide spine education. “We greatly appreciate the participation of our faculty in this program and are inspired by their dedication to providing the best surgical care possible during these challenging times.”
